The wall people reach out and touch when they walk in.

Real lime Venetian plaster — marmorino and polished veneziano — hand-troweled over a properly prepped wall, burnished to a stone-deep sheen and sealed to last. Not acrylic "Venetian-effect" paint rolled on in an afternoon. A feature wall done twice costs more than one done right.

Before you accept a quote

Why cheap Venetian plaster fails.

Almost every dull, cracked or peeling "Venetian" wall we're called to redo failed for one of three reasons. None of them are bad luck — all three are skipped to make a quote look cheaper.

01

It's paint, not plaster

A tinted acrylic "Venetian-effect" paint gets rolled and dabbed on. Real Venetian is lime and marble dust, troweled in coats. The fake reads flat, plasticky and dates within a couple of years — you can feel the difference with a fingertip.

02

No substrate prep

Plaster laid straight onto raw, uneven or unprimed walls crazes, hairline-cracks and lifts. Tannins and old paint bleed through. The wall has to be made flat, sound and correctly primed first — that's most of the real work, and it's invisible in the quote.

03

Rushed coats, no burnish

The depth and marble sheen come from multiple thin coats, compressed and burnished by hand, then sealed. Skip coats to save a day and you get a patchy, chalky wall that marks easily and stains the first time it's splashed.

How we do it

Four coats. One craft.

The same hand process on every wall, residential or commercial — because we're the ones carrying the guarantee.

Step 01

Prep & prime

Walls are made flat and sound — filled, sanded, and primed with the correct base for lime to key into. Adjoining surfaces and floors are masked and protected.

Step 02

Lay the base coats

Pigmented lime base troweled on to build body and set the ground tone. Your colour is mixed and approved on a sample board before we arrive.

Step 03

Trowel & burnish

Thin marble-dust coats worked in by hand, layer over layer, then compressed and burnished so the light moves through the surface the way stone does.

Step 04

Seal & hand back

Sealed or waxed — extra protection in wet and high-touch areas. Space cleaned, everything reinstated, and you sign off before the final payment.

The finish

What real lime plaster looks like.

Reviews can be bought. Years on the tools can't.

So we'd rather not paper this page with five-star ratings. The plasterers finishing your walls have years of hands-on experience — Venetian is a craft you learn slowly, coat by coat, not on a weekend course. Here's what you can actually verify before you let anyone near your walls.

Straight answers

Questions we get asked.

What does it cost?

Venetian plaster is priced per square metre, and the finish and wall condition move the number — polished veneziano takes more coats than a matte marmorino, and a wall that needs prep costs more than one that's ready. Send a photo and rough dimensions and you'll have a written quote back in under 15 minutes, no site visit needed for a number, no obligation.

How long does a feature wall take?

A single feature wall is typically one to two days on site, because the coats have to cure between passes — that curing time is the difference between a wall that lasts and one that crazes. Whole rooms and polished finishes take longer. Whatever it is, you get the real timeline at quote stage, not on the day.

Can you go over existing paint or an old "Venetian" finish?

Sometimes — but usually the honest answer is that it needs proper prep first. If the existing surface is chalky, glossy or already lifting, anything we lay over it fails with it. We assess it, prime it correctly, or take it back to a sound base. That's what the guarantee is written against.

Does it crack?

Properly applied lime plaster over a prepped, primed substrate doesn't craze or hairline-crack — that failure comes from a skipped base, movement in the wall, or coats rushed before they cure. Prep and cure time are exactly where cheap jobs cut, and exactly where we don't.

Can it go in bathrooms and wet areas?

Yes — lime plaster is a traditional wet-area surface and works beautifully in bathrooms, splashbacks and around baths when it's sealed correctly. The sealer and the number of coats change for wet areas; we specify that up front so it's waterproofed to standard, not just good-looking.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it down — that's it. A sealed Venetian surface cleans with a damp cloth and mild soap, no special products. It ages well rather than wearing out, and small knocks can be repaired into the finish rather than repainted over.

Who actually does the work?

Our own vetted plasterers — this is a hand craft and we don't sub it out to whoever's cheapest that week. Every crew on our jobs carries a current certificate of currency, and you get one point of contact and one invoice: us.

Can I see the colour before I commit?

Yes, and we'd rather you did. Before you commit, we hand-trowel a sample board in your chosen colour and finish so you're deciding on the actual material in your own light — not a photo on a screen, which never reads true for a surface that's all about how it catches light.

Which areas do you cover?

Melbourne's inner and eastern suburbs, the bayside, and the Mornington Peninsula down to Portsea, plus Geelong and the Surf Coast. Anywhere else in Victoria, send a photo and we'll tell you straight whether we can get to you.
